If Disaster Strikes Are Your Customers Thinking of You?

Getting your customers thinking of you and not your competition when they need your services is essential,  here is a great example of how you can do it.

So I’m driving from Telford to Bridgnorth just after Christmas. It’s a crisp sunny afternoon, nice clear roads, when all of a sudden a pheasant runs out in front of the car. I didn’t even have chance to brake. There’s a horrible thud and I look in the rear view mirror to see a plume of feathers in the air.

Not much I could do, so I continued on to my mum’s where I was having dinner. I got a few funny looks as I drove through Bridgnorth and it soon became apparent why…when I reached my destination, there was the pheasant imbedded in the grill of my car. *Darn* one new grill needed.

Anyway, I removed the bird and got on with dinner, but I instantly knew who I was going to get to fix my now damaged car. And, its not because he’s a mate and he’ll do me ‘mates’ rates’, it’s not because he’s the cheapest, it’s not because I just happened to see a sale on grills at this garage, it’s because I know his story, so I trust him.

You see Peter down at Autotech Performance in Telford got into business for two reasons. Firstly, because he’s actually great at what he does so is really passionate about delivering high standards. And secondly, he was fed up of seeing people being ripped off by other dealers. You know the sort of thing, replacing parts that don’t really need replacing, cutting corners so the job gets finished quicker but still charging full price, using cheap parts, putting the wrong parts on and then still sending it back to the customer.

Can You Get Your Customers Thinking of Your Story?

Now why’s is this so powerful? Well as a species we are pre-programmed to like stories. We love nothing better than to listen to a good tale, even from a young age we pester our parents to read us a story every night! And think about it, what are you more likely to remember, a catchy marketing one liner that you’ve paid thousands for or the story of why you got into business in the first place.

Story’s are Remembered so Make Sure You get Your Customers Thinking of You

It’s therefore worth considering whether you are the person that instantly springs to mind when your existing and potential customers are in need of the service or product that you offer. If not, it might be that they don’t know your story…Get customers thinking of you.
